Vision/ Mission/ Function:

The Horticulture Department was bifurcated from the Department of Agriculture in June 1993 and became full full-fledged function on the year 1997. The District Horticulture Office, Saitual was established on 19.11.2020 and inaugurated by the Honorable Chief Minister of Mizoram on 8^th January 2021. The Horticulture Department deals with Pomology, Olericulture, Floriculture, Plantation crops, Spices and Condiments, Mushroom cultivation, Apiculture, etc.

The main Objectives are:

1. Increase Area and production of Horticulture crops.
2. Production of quality Planting materials.
3. Training of farmers with the latest technology.
4. Processing & Post Harvest Management.
5. Utilization of available water resources in the most efficient way by means of drip irrigation etc.
6. Establishment of marketing infrastructure for Horticulture crops.
7. Upliftment of farmers’ economy with a sustainable livelihood.
8. Exploitation of agriculture potential areas along with the crop suitable for the location.
9. Introduction of exotic cultivars of different Horticulture Crops.
10. Exposing progressive farmers within/ outside the State and abroad to the country to acquire better technical knowledge and advanced farming technology.
