            The Cabinet Meeting of Mizoram Government on 1st September, 2008 approved the creation of three districts – Saitual, Khawzawl and Hnahthial. On 12th September, 2008, Saitual district, Khawzawl district and Hnahthial district were formed. MNF Government led by Pu Zoramthanga (CM) was replaced by Congress Government led by Pu Lalthanhawla (CM) in the 2008 MLA General Election. These three newly established districts have not functioned for more than 10 years.

Saitual Bial (Ṭawi A/C) MLA Pu R. Lalzirliana has become Home Minister in the Congress Government led by Pu Lalthanhawla. Five years of government term has passed, people’s expectations have been fulfilled, elections have come, preparations have been spent by the government officials, district function promised to the people in the new term. However, even at the end of the government term, the people have not seen the district function. District Implementing Demand Committee members are working together with all their skills.

In the 2018 MLA General Election, Pu Lalthanhawla’s government with 32 MLAs was overthrown. MNF government led by Pu Zoramthanga has allocated Rs 150 lakhs each for the functioning of the three ‘New Districts’ in the 20th March, 2019 Budget Session. The new government has acted like a newly wed good daughter-in-law and has arranged for district boundaries, new jobs for offices and all other necessary matters. On August 7th , 2019, the first Deputy Commissioner Pu C. Lalpeksanga, MCS and the first District Superintendent of Police Pu PC. Lalduhthlanga took over the office.

Saitual District is located in the northern part of Mizoram. It covers 40 villages and 46 Village Councils. It is bordered by Khawzawl District to the East, Manipur State and Myanmar to the North, Aizawl district and Serchhip District to the West and South. It covers an area of ​​1757.34 sq. km. Three notified towns – Saitual, Ngopa and Phullen are located. Administrationare set up as Saitual Sadar Sub-Division and Ngopa Civil Sub-Division. Saitual Sadar Sub-Division has 29 Village Councils and Ngopa Civil Sub-Division has 13 Village Councils. Saitual District has two Rural Development Block – Ngopa and Phullen RD Block. Ngopa RD Block has 13 villages and Phullen RD Block has 29 villages.

            Saitual District is home to many large rivers and high mountains. Such as Mizoram’s second highest mountains Lengteng and others : Chalfilh, Tawi, Surtlang, Mawmrang and Nauzuarzo. Large rivers – Tuivai, Tuivawl and Tuirini flows through it. These rivers and mountains have brought many blessings to the people and animals living in the district. They are valuable and useful in obtaining food and shelter, in receiving the blessings of clean air and heavenly rain. Researchers at Mizoram University have discovered new species of animals from Tawi Wildlife Sanctuary and Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary as well as Tamdil Wetland.
